日本には、ローソン、ファミリーマート、セブンイレブン、サークルケーサンクスなどの大手コンビニチェーンが存在しており、全体て約６万近くのコンビニが、全国に店を構えていると言われております。サンクトペテロブルクでは、コンビニらしいコンビニはあまり見かけませんが、その代わり、街の至るところで、小規模の個人経営のお店で溢れかえっています。数十メートルごとにお店があり、飲料、新聞、生活必需品、食品、お土産など、小さなお店ながら品揃えがよく、日本のコンビニ=高いイメージが定着していますが、ここはスーパーと同価格程度で購入できるので、旅行中は結構重宝します。

エルミタージュ美術館は、ニューヨークのメトロポリタン美術館、フランスのルーブル美術館とともに、世界三大美術館のと呼ばれており、サンクトペテロブルクといえばエルミタージュ美術館というほど、大人気の観光スポット。始まりは、かつてのロシア皇帝エカテリーナ２聖が、個人のコレクションを鑑賞する部屋を作ったことからで、それ以降コレクションの数が増え、増設していくうちに、現在の規模になったとか。約３００万品もの作品を貯蔵しており、館内を全て回るのは至難の技。半日ぐらいを覚悟に行くといいでしょう。館内はそこまで入組んでいるわけではありませんが、ライターの私も、同じ道をいったり来たりしていました。おすすめは、館内マップを片手に、鑑賞し終えた部屋番号をペンで消していく方法。意外と、漏れなく回ることができました。

分かりやすくいうと、サワークリームみたいなもの。サワークリームに比べ、味が淡白で柔らかいのが特徴。サラダやパン、スープ、お肉料理など、様々な場面で登場するスメタナ。タンパク質、カルシウム、糖質、ビタミン等が豊富で、健康食として知られています。機会があればレストランや、家庭の食卓を覗いてみてください、スメタナが登場しますから(笑)。登場しなくても冷蔵庫に隠し持っていると思います。

普通教会と言えば、その土地の名前とか、聖書に出てきそうな名前や、歴史上の人物が用いられることが多いですが、ここの教会は一風変わった名前がつけられています。かつての皇帝、アレクサンドル２聖が暗殺された場所に建てられたとか。

サンクトペテロブルク=夜景と直結はなかなかしませんが、夜のエルミタージュ美術館がおすすめ。日中は、白と黄緑？色で統一された建物が、訪れる人を楽しませてくれますが、夜は建物に写し出される、光のおもてなしの姿に早変わり。周辺では、ストリートミュージシャンが演奏していることもあり、ロマンチックな時を過ごすことができます。
